The official opening of the Omemee Medical Centre was held July 7, 2009.

The 3,000-sq.-ft clinic treats patients through independent physician practice and offers a state-of-the-art blood collection and ECG facility as well as surgical-procedure room.

Dr. John Ludwig and Dr. Jane Clay are the first physicians on site as the board continues to work with the Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative to attract other family doctors and specialists. A nurse practioner will soon be joining the staff.

As a registered charitable organization, day-to-day expenses must be covered by fundraising. Several local successful dances have been held, two walkathons organized in conjunction with the Omemee Lions Club and a variety of well-attended fundraisers have provided dollars needed to cover these costs.

Memberships are available for $5. Members are entitled to vote at the general annual meeting.
